Gracious Word: Abience

4/29/2014

Abience
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Abience

Definition: Abience
 (pronounced: 'A-bE-ens); English; noun
1. The strong urge to avoid someone or something.

Why I love this word:
This word is all about withdrawal; not wanting to participate in a certain activity. Whether this is avoiding school, work, avoiding a loved one, or distancing yourself from a few friends and not conversing with them for a little bit. There could be many reasons why you are choosing to avoid conversations; whether you're upset, saddened, tired of dealing with it, have gone through it before and you've realized it's not worth fighting over and you close the door on this person. But don't always look at the closed door as someone shutting you out. Sometimes people build a door hoping you will knock.
