Definition: Authenticity (pronounced aw·then·tis·city); noun
1. A term used in psychology an existentialist philosophy; the degree to which on is true to one's own personality, spirit, or character despite external pressures; being honest about oneself with oneself
Why I love this word:
Often it is easy to get caught up with the latest trends and fads and be easily swept away with the rest of the crowd; but when this happens are we doing it because we really want to or are we just going along with everyone else. Being authentic is embracing individuality and living for yourself while being true to who you are. It is standing apart from the crowd and following your own dreams. Robert Frost said it best when he said, "I took the road less traveled, and I am better for it." Create your own path and be true to who you are as an individual.
