Gracious Word: Egrote

2/18/2014

Egrote
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Egrote

Definition: Egrote; verb
1. To feign sickness in order to avoid work.

Why I love this word:
This word has fallen out of use. Mark Forsyth says, 'the cause must be that workers have lost their cunning.' Today my  younger brother isn't feeling well and he didn't go to school. I stayed home to watch him and take him to the doctor later today. Now he is actually sick and isn't faking it to avoid school, but when looking for a word to talk about today I came across this one. Though sometimes Christopher wishes he can stay home all the time and not ever go to school, I think today he wished the opposite.
