Gracious Word: Escapism

3/30/2014

escapism
Word every Gracious Lady should know: Escapism

Definition: Escapism
(pronounced: es-cape-ism); English; noun
1. The tendency to escape from daily reality or routine by indulging in daydreaming, fantasy, or entertainment.

Why I love this word:
I am constantly getting lost in my own thoughts and often find myself daydreaming of far off places and dreams of the future. As an artist (yes, writers and photographers are artists too) escapism is a way for me to block out the world around me and release the creativity and ideas that have been pushed aside throughout the scheduled, corporate day. It is a way to not only explore fantastical thoughts, but also a way to envision your ultimate goals and desires you have for yourself. Escapism can center your thoughts and ideas and allow you to focus on your ultimate fantasy's and let your imagination run wild whether it's in the form of your favorite book, though art, writing in a journal, or even just daydreaming. After all, where's the fun in life without a little imagination?
