Gracious Word: Facile

3/3/2014

Facile
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Facile

Definition: Facile; (Pronounced: fasəl) French; adjective
1. (of a theory or argument) appearing neat and comprehensive only by ignoring the true complexities of an issue; superficial; oversimplified; easily achieved.
2. (of a person) having a superficial or simplistic knowledge or approach.

Why I love this word:
If someone accomplishes something easily and shows simplicity, it is described as facile in a positive way. But if someone decides to take the easy way out and shows a lack of care, facile is described in a bad way. Facile can be both a compliment and an insult depending on how it's used.
