Gracious Word: Forte

3/13/2014

forte
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Forte

Definition: Forte; (Pronounced: fohrt) French; noun
1. A person's strong suit, or most highly developed characteristic, talent, or skill; something that one excels in

Why I love this word:
Notice the pronunciation of this word. The word forte that describes something you are good at is not pronounced for-tey. That way of pronunciation is an Italian word meaning loud. Forte, pronounced as if you are saying fort, defines a skill.

Finding your forte in the world is what everyone works hard to attain and this quote by Elbert Hubbard inspired my morning today--"Work to become, not to acquire."
