Definition: Halcyon; (Pronounced: hal-see-uhn) Greek; adjective
1. Denoting a period of time in the past that was ideally happy and peaceful.
Why I love this word:
We have all said it, "the good old days." Reminiscing down amnesia lane and remembering when times seemed simpler, easier and more enjoyable. But what's funny to me is that when you were in that moment, you still felt feelings of stress, maybe sadness, anxiety and nervousness. It's just now those feelings have amplified and when you look back you see how easy life really was (or should have been.) Sometimes I think life is stressful now, but then I realize in a few years, I am going to look back at these exact days and say "those where the good old days." So I plan on enjoying them, because yes, these are the best days of my life and I will continue to have great old days for the rest of my life. Then one day, when I'm old and grey, I won't think back to my childhood and say, "those where the good old days" I will look back and say, "that was a great life."
