Gracious Word: Kalopsia

5/19/2014

Kalopsia
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Kalopsia

Definition: Kalopsia (pronounced: ka-‘lop-sE-a); Greek; noun
1. The delusion of things being more beautiful than they really are.

Why I love this word:
New words can come into being by using old rules of language to create new language. Kalopsia is one of these words. It’s a neologism, but it has been used before in published writing.

I love this word because I believe this is sort of how I view the world. I love looking at things through rose colored glasses. I'd like to believe that things in real life are just as beautiful as I see them in my mind. That applies to the people in my life, the places I go and the experiences I have. Even if they aren't truly gracious, I like to make them so.
