Definition: Solicitude; (Pronounced: səˈlisiˌt(y)o͞od); Latin; noun
1. Care or concern for someone or something.
Why I love this word:
Other people's problems are interesting...when you're in the position to solve them. By asking people questions, (asking them how they are, what they are struggling with, what makes them frustrated, etc.) you're learning more about their story. Being an active listener, you create a unique value proposition. You build something that solves someone's hardship in a way that is better than our alternatives. To me, there are very few things that are as fulfilling as understanding someone's problem and helping them solve it.
“The people we tend to like most are those who are much more interested in other people than in themselves, selfless and caring, whose conversation is not a stream of self-involved remarks.” -Brian Kiteley, “The 3 A.M Epiphany”
