Gracious Word: Belie

4/7/2014

Belie
Word every Gracious Individual should know: Belie

Definition: Belie; (Pronounced: biˈlī) verb
1. (Of an appearance) fail to give a true notion or impression of (something); disguise or contradict.

Why I love this word:
The world isn't all that we see. There are lies, stretched out truths and covered up stories we hear on a daily basis. Whether they are to hurt us or to make someone else's life seem a little bit better, we aren't hearing the truth. Belie is this same idea but rather than lying with our words we lie with our appearance.
