Here are some ways to guide you through that process:
Envision Your Dream and Put it in Front of You
A goal that you can actually see is massively more powerful than one you write down. We call them 'Vision Boards.' Take photos from magazines, print them out from the internet or wherever else you can find a photo of the things you want to achieve. Compile them together and create a vision board. May they be the biggest, most amazing dreams you can think of. You may feel silly at first, however, they are things everyone dreams of, but are frightened of believing in its plausibility. If you can visualize, then these will begin to materialize.
Share It; Publicly
Having an open sourced life and sharing your goals to live with radical transparency allows you to grow faster and live your life as an example. When you share your goals, whether it is with your close friends and family members or as publicly as Facebook, you now have social pressure to push you to achieve your goals. Not only will it push you to actually be accountable for your actions, but you will receive positive feedback as well. You will get emails from friends who might have experienced the same and you might be surprised by the support you will get from your network.
Commit to Yourself
There is only one person in this goal-setting process that matters; it's you, Gracious Readers. Commit to yourself and then remember to re-commit each time you fall. Be a little selfish, because you are the only one who knows what is best for yourself. Do what you think will only make you stronger, happier and more at peace with yourself. You have already invested in the time to know you want to commit to your goal; work hard to see it through.
Don't be Afraid to Dream a Little Bigger, Darling
I don't know how many times I can say this quote. No dream is too big. I repeat; NO DREAM IS TOO BIG. If you can see yourself living it, it is plausible. Now, the only difference between it being something in your mind and something you are actually living is if you make an active choice. Believe in yourself, and stop at nothing until you achieve greatness.
Life is meant to be enjoyed, lived fully with laughter, gratefulness and pleasantries. Don't be afraid to live a life full of adventure. Make everyday great. Once you wake up, firmly believe within yourself that today is going to be the best day of your life. Sure, there may be some days that aren't so great, but remember it's not the events that happen to you, it's how you respond to them. Nothing hurts unless you let it.
This year, one of my resolutions was to find something everyday to be grateful for and see the goodness in everyday. There hasn't been one day so far when there wasn't a moment a huge grin shined across my face for being grateful of all that has happened to me. I have seen one piece of goodness in everyday. I hold onto that feeling and have let it guide my life. And with no surprise, more good things continue to happen. The universe returns to you what you put out.
There is a great quote that reads, “It’s funny how day by day, nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.” One year from now, you will be one year older and you would have lived a life that is no longer the same, whether it is positive or not. What can you do with your goals today that will make looking back to today feel really different and satisfying?
