Share your Knowledge
The easiest way to help others is to share what you know. You don't have to be a teacher in a classroom to have this opportunity. Everyday there is a chance for you to educate someone about your area of expertise. The secret is to keep educating yourself so you can stay ahead of the curve. I have also learned that sharing your knowledge with others helps you learn about the topic even more. Conversations spark ideas and listening to another point of view can challenge your thought and inspire you to know more.
Share your Resources
Think about the resources you have procured and be mindful of whether they can help someone else. Life is about making connections with human beings and connecting them to more humans. If you believe that two people you know need to be introduced because there is opportunity for something great to be created, introduce them! You will be bringing people together and before you know it you're creating a community and a larger, more positive network of like-minded individuals.
Find What is Valuable to Them
The best and most productive way to help someone is to know what is actually valuable to them. You might be spending time and effort where that topic wasn't of value to someone. Make an effort to ask the areas they might need help with, and then keep it in the back of your mind when you see the opportunity.
Give Transparent Feedback
This can sometimes be difficult because not all people know how to respond to criticism graciously. But there is a difference between telling someone they aren't good enough and giving them feedback on how to improve. It might be hard to take in at first, but if you know what you are saying is only to benefit the receiver, in the long run, you will be the backbone of their growth and improvement.
There are so many ways to give someone recognition. You can include them in an article or blog post you have written, or mention them in a speech or presentation. But giving someone any kind of recognition for their efforts is sure to lift their spirits and inspire them to keep going.
Helping others may not be easy, especially when we are usually all consumed with helping ourselves. However, keep in mind the simple ways to extend your character into something greater than you. There is a difference between offering a service and being willing to serve. They both may include giving, but only one is generous.
